SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcats’ Moellers wins at Dickinson Relays

CEDAR FALLS — Marshalltown senior John Moellers won the 3,200-meter invitational race at Monday’s Dickinson Relays at the UNI-Dome.

Moellers’ gold was part of a 1-2 Bobcat finish as sophomore Preston Johnson finished as runner-up. Moellers won in 9 minutes, 23.90 seconds, Johnson was less than a second back at 9:24.85.

MHS senior Ethan Gorsuch placed 23rd out of 150 competitors in the long jump with a best leap of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

Parker Gooding, also a senior, posted a top-50 finish in the 800-meter run with a 2:13.18 for 46th place out of 178 entries.

In the shot put, MHS junior Jaxson Hinkle had a best throw of 43 feet, 3 inches, for 46th out of 206 throwers.

Marshalltown’s best relay finish came in the 4×400 relay, as Kieron Sharp, Carson Wright, Carter Bell, and Gooding finished in 3:53.13 for 35th place.

BCLUW’s Cayden White was sixth in the 800 in 2:03.94 and 24th in the mile run invitational in 4:42.88. Vance Hoyt placed 39th in the long jump at 19 feet, 4 inches.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Jace Aneweer placed 120th in the shot put with a best throw of 37 feet, 10 1/4 inches for the Rebels’ best placement of the day.

West Marshall’s Schuler clears the bar for gold

WAVERLY — West Marshall senior Kylee Schuler was the only high jumper over the bar at 5-foot-3 to win the girls event at an indoor co-ed track and field meet at Wartburg College on Monday.

Only three jumpers reached 5-1; Schuler clinched her win after clearing 5-2 on her second attempt and also got 5-3 on her second try. Trojan teammate Ryleigh Storjohann tied for sixth after clearing 4-8.

The Trojans also had a trio of 12th-place finishes in running events; Olivia Randall in 1:08.78 in the 400, Rachel Case running 13:57.49 in the 3,000, and the 4×800 relay team of Summer Kurth, Bailey Kendall, Emma Case and Millie Meester in 12:18.92.

Jace Eich clocked the best finish for the West Marshall boys, snagging silver in the 400 in 53.35. Waverly-Shell Rock’s Sam Wilson won in 53.19. Kinnick Geers added a 9th-place run in the 55-meter prelims in 6.90, three-hundredths of a second away from qualifying for the finals in the event

Lucas Barnes had the Trojan boys’ best field event finish, sixth in the high jump after clearing 5-10. The 4×200 relay quartet of Gabe Degelau, Geers, Evan Siegert and Eich finished fifth in 1:38.79.

South Tama County’s Timmothy Chandonia finished third in the boys shot put with a top throw of 46 feet, 2 inches. Barrett Jesina ran 10:51.25 in the 3,200 for sixth.

STC’s Scout Ridout reached the 55-meter hurdle finals, finishing fifth in prelims in 9.39 and dropping to 9.18 for fourth in the finals. Sydney Arp contributed a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 15 feet, 3 inches; Autumn Elsbury was fifth in the shot put at 33 feet, 1 1/4 inches.
