OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton has gained the best the Hawkeyes had to offer.
The Blue Jays signed their second former Univerity of Iowa men’s basketball player, adding junior guard Josh Dix out of the transfer portal.
Dix made the move official via his Instagram account on Friday, and Creighton’s athletics website posted the news on Saturday.
Former Iowa forward Owen Freeman, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, was officially announced as a transfer portal addition on Friday, and Dix made it a pair of Hawkeyes shortly thereafter.
Dix, a 6-6 junior guard, is a Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln graduate — just across the Missouri River from Omaha.
His Instagram post announcing his transfer plans read “Committed” and “Coming Home.”
“I am thrilled that Josh is coming home to be a Bluejay!” said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. “His ability to play on or off the ball is exactly the versatility we were in search of. His tireless work ethic will enhance our culture from the time he arrives on campus. I can’t wait to coach him!”
Dix was third on the Hawkeyes in scoring this past season at 14.4 points per game behind Freeman and Payton Sandfort, both at 16.7 ppg. Dix shot 50.7 percent from the field, 42.2 percent from 3-point range and 76.6 percent from the free-throw line this winter. He added 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
Dix got off to a slow start at Iowa after breaking his leg during his senior season at Council Bluffs Lincoln. He averaged 2.0 points per game as a freshman, 8.9 as a sophomore and 14.4 as a junior, starting in 52 of the 97 games he played.
He was named honorable mention all-Big Ten as a sophomore, and he’s a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Dix will have one year of eligibility remaining at Creighton.
