Bobcat boys net triumph over East
DES MOINES — The Marshalltown boys’ tennis team wasted no time in moving to 2-0 this season, spanking Des Moines East 11-0 in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet.
The Bobcats won all 11 matches in straight sets, getting four complete shutouts along the way. Isaac Seberger and Elliot Kodis at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively, won with 6-0, 6-0 victories, while the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles teams took down their Scarlets foes by the same scores.
Kyle Smith and Will Swartz at No. 2 and Lucas Bantz and Collin Jablonski at No. 3 powered the Bobcat doubles teams with 6-0, 6-0 triumphs.
Marshalltown’s lineup featured 16 different players filling the roster spots against Des Moines East (0-2).
“Awesome to get 16 players into a varsity match tonight,” said MHS head coach James Christensen. “A lot of experience gained that will help later this year and the next.”
Christensen pointed to the sophomore Kodis for his performance in his varsity singles debut, a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Alfredo Espana-Alarcon.
“Elliot Kodis had a great debut tonight,” Christensen said. “I’m excited to see what he can do in the singles lineup.”
Isaac Benscoter at No. 1 singles surrendered just one game in his triumph over Julian Camacho, while Jacob Christen allowed just two games to Keegan Beattie-Cerveny at No. 2. Tayven Dutton scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jaylin Luong at No. 4, while Evan Roush captured a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Logan Craigmile at No. 6.
MHS closed out the meet with doubles wins for Caleb Rasmussen and Adam Boone at No. 1, Isaac Young and Aaron Hunter at No. 4, and Micah Goodwin and Hayden Daters at No. 5.
The Bobcats continue their busy schedule with Thursday’s home match against Des Moines Hoover.
