Bobcat girls get third at Boone Invitational

BOONE — The Marshalltown girls’ track and field team took third place out of five teams at the Boone Invitational on Thursday at Goeppinger Field.

The Bobcats totaled 82 points to trail Newton (229.5) and Boone (146.5), while Fort Dodge (62) and Waukee Northwest (51) finished at the back of the pack.

Marshalltown was led by a pair of runner-up finishes. The 4×800-meter relay team of Millie Heitmann, Mattea Wright, Elyza Ceren and Drea Ceren earned second in a combined time of 11 minutes, 25.50 seconds, while Niah Lott took second in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet.

Mallory Meyeraan and Anessa Morrison finished 3-4 in the 3,000 with respective times of 12:57.88 and 13:04.34. Heitmann got a bronze of her own in the 800, finishing in 2:46.07, while Grace Christensen scored third in the 200 (28.76).

The Bobcats closed the meet with a third-place result in the 4×400 relay, with Heitmann, Christensen, Erandy Ibarra Madrigal and Kamryn Price putting together a time of 4:48.35.

MHS took fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay, with the contingent of Chloe Hoogensen, Geneva Spitzli, Price and Anela Villarreal timing in at 1:22.50. Spitzli got fourth (18.56) and Hoogensen sixth (19.60) in the 100 hurdles, while Christensen took fourth in the 100 (13.45). Drea Ceren earned team points for placing fourth in the 1,500 (5:45.44) as well.
