Bobcat girls top J-Hawks in the rain
CEDAR RAPIDS — Neither the rain nor Cedar Rapids Jefferson could prevent the Marshalltown girls’ tennis team from earning its second win of the season.
The Bobcats beat the host J-Hawks 5-3 on Friday afternoon to improve to 2-0, making the most out of an abbreviated dual meet due to the weather.
The match was shortened to just three doubles matches of pro set scoring. The 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles for Marshalltown’s Kate Hauser and Lily Zahnd provided Marshalltown with the winning point on the team ledger.
MHS went 4-2 in singles play with wins coming from Kate Sandvick at No. 2, Hauser at No. 3, Zahnd at No. 4 and Reese Jensen at No. 5. All six singles matches were decided in straight sets.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday with their new home opener scheduled for 4 p.m. against Des Moines East.
