AMES — The transfer portal world waits for no one.
The Iowa State men’s basketball roster has already added three players since the transfer portal opened a week ago, including Oskaloosa native Eric Mulder from Purdue Fort Wayne, Virginia transfer Blake Buchanan and Eastern Washington transfer Mason Williams.
Mulder, who played his high school basketball at Pella Christian, is a 6-foot-8 forward who has one season of eligibility remaining.
Buchanan is a 6-11, 225-pound forward who announced his intentions to transfer three days ago through his Instagram account. His ties to ISU’s T.J. Otzelberger include having practiced for the Cyclone head coach at the 2023 USA Basketball U19 camp in Colorado Springs.
Buchanan averaged 5.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game, starting in 22 of 32 games for Virginia this season. He shot 53.4 percent from the field but just 54.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Williams is a 6-5 guard from Seattle who averaged 13.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for Eastern Washington in his sophomore season.
Williams scored as many as 35 points in a game this past season, starting in 22 of 27 games. He scored at least 20 points in seven games for the Eagles.
Five members of this winter’s Iowa State team entered the transfer portal: Dishon Jackson, Demarion Watson, Kayden Fish, JT Rock and Nojus Indrusaitis. On Tuesday, Fish announced his intent to transfer to Ball State.
