Four Hawkeyes selected on final day of NFL Draft
GREEN BAY, Wis. — University of Iowa defensive tackle Yahya Black was the first of four Hawkeyes selected on the final day of the NFL Draft, going to the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 28th pick of the fifth round.
Black, at 6-foot-5, 317 points, was an honorable mention all-Big Ten selection for the Hawkeyes after finishing his senior season with 34 tackles, including seven for loss, one quarterback sack, two pass breakups and a blocked field goal.
Black was the 164th overall player selected in the draft, marking the third year in a row an Iowa defensive linemen was selected. Fellow defensive tackle Logan Lee was a sixth-round pick of the Steelers last year.
Three more Hawkeyes were drafted in the seventh and final round on Saturday: offensive linemen Mason Richman and Connor Colby, and tight end Luke Lachey.
Richman was the 18th pick of the final round, going to the Seattle Seahawks with the 234th overall selection. The 6-6, 312-pound left tackle started all 13 games for Iowa last season, earning honorable mention all-Big Ten honors.
Colby (6-6, 310) was taken with the 33rd pick of the seventh round by the San Francisco 49ers, going 249th overall. Colby started all 13 games at right guard for Iowa, earning first-team all-Big Ten selection.
Richman and Colby contributed to an offensive line that helped Iowa rush for 197.2 yards per game — its most since 2002.
The Houston Texans took Iowa tight end Luke Lachey with the 39th pick of the seventh round, marking the third-straight season a Hawkeye tight end was drafted (Sam LaPorta, 2023; Erick All, 2024).
Lachey (6-6, 247) was the 255th overall pick after a senior season in which he made 28 catches for 231 yards. In his Hawkeye career, Lachey made 74 receptions for 893 yards.
