From Hawks to ’Huskers: Sandfort transfers out

Pryce Sandfort

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska men’s basketball team made it clear how important it was to get Iowa’s Pryce Sandfort out of the transfer portal by making him their first addition on Friday.

Sandfort announced his commitment on Friday through his social media accounts, with a picture of him in a Cornhuskers uniform alongside two smaller photos of him with head coach Fred Hoiberg.

The 6-foot-7 wing took his first portal visit to Lincoln last week, adding to his potential landing spots along with Illinois and Ohio State. A return to Iowa was an option, Sandfort said, but it didn’t work out that way in the end.

Sandfort will be a junior next season. He appeared in all 33 games for the Hawkeyes this winter, making two starts while averaging 8.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The Waukee Northwest graduate shot 40 percent from 3-point range and scored in double figures in Iowa’s last four games.

Nebraska tried to recruit Sandfort out of high school. The former four-star swingman officially visited Nebraska before his senior season at Waukee Northwest in 2023.

Sandfort’s father is a native Nebraskan who played college basketball at Hastings College.

Starting at $4.38/week.
