IOWA CITY — Ben McCollum has landed his first transfer portal prospect from outside of the Hawkeye State.

Kansas State junior guard Brendan Hausen has committed to the University of Iowa and its first-year head coach, giving McCollum a 3-point shooter to fit in to his style of offense.

Hausen is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound off-guard who spent one season at Kansas State after playing his first two years at Villanova. He started all 33 games for Kansas State this past season and came off the bench in 66 of 68 games at Villanova.

Hausen is a career 39.1 percent 3-point shooter, having gone 178-for-455 from distance during his three years of collegiate basketball. He is a former four-star recruit out of Amarillo, Texas, where he was Amarillo High School’s all-time leading scorer and the 2021-22 Boys Athlete of the Year in the Texas Panhandle.

With Kansas State, Hausen averaged a career-best 10.9 points per game after shooting 39 percent from the field and 82 percent at the free-throw line.

Hausen joins a Hawkeye roster that has a decidedly Drake feel, as McCollum has recruited five of his former Bulldogs to don the black and gold. Cooper Koch, a 6-8 forward, and Jacob Koch, a 6-2 walk-on guard from Iowa City West, are the only other players currently on McCollum’s roster.

The rest of the Hawkeyes’ returning roster has either transferred or entered the transfer portal since the firing of former head coach Fran McCaffery.

Starting at $4.38/week.
