MHS boys track 7th at Urbandale

URBANDALE — Marshalltown boys track and field scored 27 points to finish seventh as a team at an Urbandale meet on Thursday.

Waukee Northwest won the team title with 188 points, followed by Urbandale with 113 and Johnston with 89 points.

The Bobcats had a pair of third-place relays to bookend the meet — the sprint medley quartet of Isaac Ceniceros, Evan Anderson, Carter Bell and Carson Wright finished in 1:44.36 and the 4×400 foursome of Kieron Sharp, Aiden Smitherman, Bell and Ceniceros clocked in at 3:37.01 for bronze in the final event of the night.

Ethan Gorsuch added a fourth-place time in the 110 hurdles in 18.03 and Smitherman was fourth in the 200 at 24.23. Owen Eaton had the best field performance for the Bobcats, finishing fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 45 feet, 7 inches.

MHS returns to action on April 28 at Mason City.

MHS girls 9th in Waterloo

WATERLOO — Marshalltown girls track and field finished ninth out of 14 teams at a meet hosted by Waterloo West at Memorial Stadium on Thursday.

The Bobcats scored 24 points; Cedar Falls claimed team gold with 166 points, followed by Urbandale with 112 points and Mount Vernon at 107 points. Grundy Center added 16 points in 12th.

The best MHS running finish was in the shuttle hurdle, as Chloe Hoogenson, Geneva Spitzli, Lorelai Villarreal and Anela Villarreal finished third in 1:21.28.

Grace Christensen added team points in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, finishing fifth and fourth, respectively.

The distance medley team of Camille Ceren, Mayaliz Heredia De Luna, Millie Heitmann and Anessa Morrison broke the five-minute barrier, finishing sixth in 4:59.67.

In the field events, Olivia Wise led the way with an eighth-place throw in the discus at 91 feet, 2 inches.

The Marshalltown girls compete in their home meet on Monday at Leonard Cole Field.
