MHS names Dulaney as new boys swim coach

Ray Dulaney
Ray Dulaney will serve as the next head boys swim coach at Marshalltown High School, starting in the 2025-26 season.
Dulaney steps into the role following the retirement of long-time head coach Mike Loupee, who led the program for 29 years before concluding his tenure after this past season.
Dulaney is no stranger to the Bobcat swim community. A 2013 MHS graduate and Bobcat swim alum, he was a four-year letter winner and three-time state qualifier, and he still holds a top-10 time in the 100-yard breaststroke in the school’s record books.
For the past four years, Dulaney has served as assistant coach. His coaching experience also includes time with the Marshalltown YMCA Blue Waves program, where he was an assistant coach from 2013-2018 before taking over as head coach for the USA Swimming program from 2018-2020. He holds an American Swim Coaches Association Level 2 certification.
“It is truly a dream come true for me to lead this program and help continue the tradition and success of MHS boys swimming,” Dulaney said. “I am excited to continue working with an amazing group of student-athletes and for what the future holds for our program.”
Dulaney also brings collegiate experience. He competed at Luther College, where he was a four-year letterwinner and earned a spot in the top 10 all-time for the 200 breaststroke. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and currently serves as a 9-12 physical education teacher at MHS, and he also coaches track at Miller Middle School.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Dulaney step into this leadership role,” said MHS Athletic Director Ryan Isgrig. “As both an alum and a dedicated coach within our swim community, Ray brings a deep passion for the sport and a strong connection to our student-athletes. We’re confident that his experience, energy, and commitment to excellence will have a lasting impact on the program and help continue its proud tradition.”
