VERMILLION, S.D. — Two-time Times-Republican Player of the Year Katy Reyerson recently announced her decision to transfer from Northern Iowa to the University of South Dakota.

Reyerson, a 2023 West Marshall High School graduate, announced her decision to enter the transfer portal on March 25, and on April 1 she posted her signing with South Dakota on her social media accounts.

“I am super excited to announce my signing with the University of South Dakota,” Reyerson wrote. “I would like to first and foremost thank God for guiding me through this process, my family and friends for their support, and my coaches for this amazing opportunity.

“Go Yotes!!”

Reyerson was a three-time all-state selection at West Marshall, leading the Trojans to the Class 3A state tournament in her senior season. In her prep career, Reyerson totaled 1,574 points, 998 rebounds, 424 assists, 325 steals and 204 blocks.

She’s West Marshall’s second all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and the Trojans’ record-holder for points and blocks in a game.

Reyerson is one of six transfer portal signees for South Dakota, which just completed its first season under new head coach Carrie Eighmey with an 11-20 record. Eighmey coached at Idaho for one season after serving as the head coach at Nebraska-Kearney for eight years and Hastings (Neb.) for three.

“We are excited about Katy and her future as a Yote!” said Eighmey. “Katy brings great length and versatility to our roster. She’s good in transition, can stretch to three, and can score around the rim. She will also be able to help our team on the defensive end and on the boards!”

In Reyerson’s two seasons at Northern Iowa, she played in 27 games off the bench for the Panthers, averaging 7.3 minutes per outing. She averaged 1.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. This past winter, Reyerson played a season-high 19 minutes against South Dakota State, putting up five points and eight rebounds. In 13 minutes against South Dakota, Reyerson got eight points and four boards.

The 6-foot-2 forward has two years of eligibility remaining.

Starting at $4.38/week.
